Dear St. James Families,

This week has been busy and joy-filled as we continued our journey through Advent and drew closer to Christmas. Our classrooms were filled with energy and creativity as we approached Winter Break. Throughout the week, our students experienced how faith, beauty, learning, and community come together to reveal Christ’s presence among us in very real and tangible ways.

One of the highlights of the week was our Christmas classroom celebrations. It was truly a joy to witness the gift exchanges between students and teachers, teachers and students, and students with one another. The thoughtful gestures, joyful laughter, festive activities, and Christmas-themed treats created moments of genuine connection and celebration. These simple but meaningful moments reminded us that the heart of Christmas is found in generosity, gratitude, and shared joy.

On Friday, a representative from the VFW visited St. James to present awards to three of our students for their outstanding entries in the Patriot’s Pen competition. This well-deserved recognition reflects not only the dedication of our students, but also the support of their families and the guidance of teachers like Mrs. Crifasi. It is a meaningful reminder that being part of St. James connects us not only to our school and the St. Joseph community, but also to the broader story of our nation.

Earlier in the week, our Preschool Christmas Program took place on December 16, followed by our All-School Christmas Musical, Angel's Aware, program on December 18. Both were beautiful expressions of our shared hope and faith. Another highlight for our middle school students was their field trip to Missouri Western State University to watch the Griffons take on the Avila Eagles—a well-deserved break. These middle schoolers are exceptional, and truly among the best I have encountered in my 15 years in education.

These moments—both large and small—continue to reveal something essential: we come to understand ourselves more deeply when we discover we belong to a community that welcomes us as we are and invites us to offer the best of ourselves.

As we now enter Winter Break, I would like to thank you for the continued support you offer our school. Your partnership helps create a place where children are welcomed, known, and loved, and where faith is not simply taught, but lived—through friendships, learning, celebration, and the quiet moments that made this Advent season so meaningful.

Sincerely in Christ,

Mr. McDonnell
