Dear St. James Families,
Welcome back, and Happy New Year! It has been a joy to welcome our students, staff, and families back after Winter Break. We truly hit the ground running returning to routines, full schedules, and the rhythm of school life. While the transition back may have felt challenging for some, there is something good and life-giving about beginning again together... I do love being at St. James and know the staff does too!
The image of “running” fits especially well at the start of a new year. January often invites us to reflect on how we care for ourselves and the habits we form. Personally, I am passionate about tending to both my spiritual and physical health. As we work to strengthen our hearts through prayer, the sacraments, and daily faithfulness, we are also called to care for the bodies God has entrusted to us. These two dimensions of our lives are deeply connected and strengthen one another.
That connection became very tangible this week as we welcomed the American Heart Association to introduce the Heart Challenge to our students. They are being encouraged to build healthy habits while also raising awareness and funds to support children and babies living with heart conditions. Students can earn prizes based on participation, and our school also benefits as we work toward shared goals.
This cause is especially close to my heart, and I invite our families to step up to this challenge by not only helping those facing heart-related illnesses, but also to encourage our students to see health, generosity, and service as part of a meaningful life. By participating, you are supporting children in need, reinforcing healthy choices at home and school, and strengthening the St. James community as a whole.
As we move forward into this new year, it will get busy and sometimes chaotic. But please know that you and your families are in my prayers. Even when we face fears, uncertainty, or the anxieties of daily life, we are never alone. May we be guided by the Light of Christ, who gives us strength in every challenge. As St. Paul reminds us, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13). May this truth bring you peace, courage, and confidence as we walk together in faith.
God Bless.
Mr. McDonnell
